After 16 Sister Wives seasons, viewers have seen their fair share of drama between Kody Brown and his four wives: Meri, Christine, Janelle, and Robyn Brown. The series followed a polygamous family escaping persecution in Utah. Their lives were never the same after a drastic move to Sin City.

Kody, the father of 18, started out as a happy-go-lucky guy who just happened to be married to four women (only one marriage is legal). The Wyoming native wanted to share his unorthodox lifestyle with Sister Wives viewers, in an attempt to normalize polygamy. Viewers were captivated by the idea, and quickly gravitated to the series. However, over the years, cracks started forming between the husband and wives, with three deciding to call it quits after years of living in a plural family.

9, Kody Divorces Meri Brown

For years, Meri was the first and only legal wife of Kody. The couple tied the knot in 1990, and welcomed Janelle into the family in 1993. After years of being a loyal wife, Meri offered to divorce Kody, so he’d be able to marry Robyn legally. The intent was for Kody to be able to adopt Robyn’s three children from an earlier marriage to David Jessop. The episode showed Meri seriously regretting her decision, and her marriage was never the same.

8, Kody Moves The Family To Las Vegas

Kody first shared that he decided to uproot his large family after he became aware that Utah police officers might arrest him. In a midnight run, he, his four wives and 18 kids drove to Las Vegas, hoping for a better life. However, Sin City wasn’t all it was cracked up to be, and Kody soon felt disillusioned by his choice of a new home. In Sister Wives season 13, Kody announced that he would be moving again, this time to Flagstaff, AZ.

As with all other choices in the polygamous family, Kody had the final say, even though Meri, Janelle, and Christine were all against the move. Years later, viewers found out that Kody chose to move because Robyn’s son Dayton Brown wanted to attend school in Arizona. Some of his family members never forgave Kody.

7, Kody Shares “Ick” Factor For Robyn

It may be hard to believe, but at one point, Kody had a major “ick” factor for his fourth and favorite wife, Robyn. The mother of five was first introduced to Sister Wives fans in 2010. At that time, Kody shared some serious thoughts about his future legal wife during a season 1 confessional. Kody had some reservations about Robyn, noting that he, “shuddered” when he first met her.

Kody’s concerns were centered around Robyn being a divorced woman with three children. Kody believed it would be a lot to work for him if he entered a relationship. Surprisingly, Robyn didn’t seem upset by Kody’s rude comments, as she’s currently his only remaining wife.

6, Kody Calls Wife Lazy

For years, members of the large polygamous family have enjoyed calling one another unmotivated. The attacks didn’t just center around complaints about a dirty home. The jabs were also aimed at failing relationships. Kody loved using the term, “lazy” as his go-to word, perhaps to keep his wives under control. Kody was caught ranting about Janelle and Christine acting like, “princesses” during season 15. The insult didn’t sit well, as both women knew they were being put down.

5, Kody Falls Out Of Love With Christine

Kody and Christine’s love story had been unraveling for years, but it was hard to watch Kody lose his cool during Sister Wives season 16. While Christine was cool as a cucumber, Kody found himself throwing child-like tantrums in front of all of his spouses. TLC cameras often caught the patriarch as he yelled furiously at Christine. He even accused her of the ultimate betrayal. While his antics were entertaining, Kody proved that he was still very immature.

4, Kody Dramatically Reenacts Knife In Back Heading

As things began to heat up between Kody and Christine, the other wives were finally let in on the fact that the divorce was imminent. During one of the family meetings, Robyn started to cry, living up to her “Sobbin’ Robyn” name. This infuriated Kody, who hated the fact that he felt Robyn had been ostracized by Christine. In a stunning and dramatic soliloquy, Kody screamed at Christine, noting that he’d wasted all these years on the mother of six, saying, “Just the knife in the kidneys.”

3, Meri Reveals Her Affair

Sister Wives season 9 chronicled the beginning of the messy fallout from Meri’s emotional affair. Meri’s online dating was the biggest scandal to hit the Brown family before the divorces started to happen. In 2015, Meri was beginning to feel neglected (and rightly so) by Kody, who was clearly not putting much effort into their relationship. The mother of one struck up a romance with a man she believed was Sam Cooper. However, she soon figured out that she was being catfished by a woman named Jackie Overton.

Meri hadn’t just sent flirty messages, as she also sent explicit photos of herself in the bathtub, and while eating a banana seductively. Even though Meri came clean, Kody never recovered from the affair. The scandal marked the end of their romance, as Kody it made it clear that he’d never trust his first wife again.

2, Christine’s Nacho Habits

One of the most infamous scenes in Sister Wives’ history has to be the “Nacho” scene. The Brown family memoir Becoming Sister Wives revealed how he truly felt about his third wife gorging on the popular appetizer. During a TLC confessional, the memory came flooding back to Christine. She revealed to cameras that she and Kody’s marriage was over.

The mother of six pointed back to the nacho scene as a sign of their disconnect. After all, at the time, Kody stated that he wasn’t attracted to her. Kody revealed that he’d told Christine that he found her unattractive. His opinion negatively impacted Christine’s self-esteem.

1, Mykelti Learns About Sex

Kody decided to sit his daughter Mykelti Padron and her fiance Tony Padron for a talk about the birds and the bees, which was incredibly painful for Sister Wives viewers to watch. The chat came during season 6, as viewers watched Mykelti listen to her dad and mom talk about the evils of kissing before marriage. It was clear from the camera crew’s snickers that Kody had no education on human biology. He told his daughter, “hormones go into your mouth, and it registers certain things that will stimulate both the heart and the body for other reasons.”
