We all love Blue Bloods, but sometimes this show just throws too much cringe our way… And out of all the scenes, these five were definitely the most cringeworthy.
5. Erin’s Speed Dating
Season 4’s Righting Wrongs takes the confident and strong Erin and puts her into the most unlikely situation ever: speed dating. Being an incredibly uncomfortable and cringey affair in itself, speed dating goes even worse for Erin since in her case, the man she decidedly blows off turns out to be the defense attorney on her next case. This experiment could never go right for poor Erin.
4. Badillo’s Shenanigans
In Season 12’s Reality Check, Eddie’s new partner, Badillo, turns out to be way more problematic than anyone could have anticipated. When he gets into a conflict with Eddie and Jaime — an already married couple — he goes off about how his previous partner died right before his eyes, but then we learn that he simply tried to insert himself between Eddie and Jaime. This was cringey and immature.
3. Danny’s Stand-Up
Season 3’s Inside Jobs shows Danny Reagan in the worst light possible when the detective decides to undertake the role of a clown, and it goes about as well as you’d expect. Trying to make fun of the deceased, posing with dead rats, and supplementing it all with a bunch of terrible and gross jokes are all poor ways to present yourself to your new partner… in case you want to try Danny’s route one day.
2. Donnie’s Failure
In Season 4’s Manhattan Queens, we probably see the worst-ever attempt at representation as the show touches on the topic of drag queens. As a drag queen is murdered, Danny proclaims himself a fan of the show, and others ridicule him for his “manliness” while informants wear femme fatale costumes, and so on and so forth. And yes, this was Donnie’s failure, not Danny’s: Wahlberg directed the episode himself.
1. Angela’s Treatment
Season 12’s USA Today, too, was a huge mess that was initially supposed to be the show’s reaction to the changing real world. After being accused of racism and racial ignorance numerous times, Blue Bloods introduced Angela — a new character played by an actress of Ethiopian descent. But Angela was demoted as swiftly as she appeared, leaving everyone to wonder what the point of it all was.
