Meri Brown knows that Sister Wives patriarch Kody Brown didn’t exactly live up to her dreams of a perfect marriage. But when she and Kody tied the knot in 1990, Meri still hoped for happiness.

And Meri, 52, even welcomed a child, Leon Brown, into the world with the Sister Wives patriarch, 54. But Kody gradually changed their relationship. First he arranged for a polygamous marriage with Janelle Brown. And then Kody added Christine Brown and Robyn Brown to the plural marriage.

But in order for the Sister Wives patriarch to adopt Robyn’s children from her previous marriage legally, Meri agreed to divorce him. And as she looks back, Meri sees how the stresses gradually began. But now, amid their separation, Meri has shared her regrets with People.

And the Sister Wives star admitted that she feels she wasted time before that last split. However, Meri views her catfish scandal, involving a virtual connection with a woman who pretend to be a male admirer, as sparking the biggest change in her marriage.

And in retrospect, Meri feels that she and Kody lived in “limbo land” for some time. The two revealed their separation in January, ending their 32-year marriage. And Meri explained, “I don’t like living in limbo land.” But then she admitted, “I feel like I live there a lot.”

However, after Kody put Meri into “limbo land,” she realized she could take ownership of her life through a separation. And the Sister Wives star now appreciates making her own decisions that aren’t “based on anybody else.” But she also feels regretful, wishing “that we could have had some of the conversations sooner. And also, I don’t know if I would’ve been ready to have some of the conversations sooner,” Meri admitted.

As a result, the Sister Wives star wants to stop focusing on regrets. But she noted, “I think we all do that to some degree.” However, Meri feels that she experienced some life lessons in the process of living in limbo land. “But I know that there’s things that I needed to learn, and I know there’s things that I needed to do to be able to be in the place that I am right now with the whole thing.”

And right now, Meri feels positive about her life. “I got some good things going on. I’m successful in business. I’ve got another really exciting projects coming along, good people surrounding me, [and an] awesome support system. And business is good, and personal life is good. And yeah, things are good.”
