General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal that John J. York, who has played Mac Scorpio for decades, recently revealed a shocking medical diagnosis.
Earlier this month, York told his fans on social media that he has myelodysplastic syndrome and smoldering multiple myeloma, blood and bone marrow disorders.
According to York “Over the past many months, I’ve had three bone marrow biopsies, many chemo treatments — I have another one coming up in a couple of weeks — and I’m closing in on a blood stem cell transplant.”

York also asked fans to see if they might be a match for him and others who are in need of lifesaving medical procedures.
Now he has shared the most wonderful news—doctors have found a bone marrow donation match for him!
GH spoilers – John J. York’s Medical Diagnosis
John J. York appeared on Good Morning America on Friday where he revealed more details about his situation. He said that his doctors initially gave him 3-5 years to live due to his dire medical condition.
He also shared the terrific news that since then he has received the best news: “I believe they’ve found a match, a perfect match … So we’re going to start testing, and doing all that kind of stuff, coming up here in about a week.”
He added that if all things go to plan, the procedure would take place in November.

York told the show that after it was found that his family members were not matches, he worked with BeTheMatch.org to find a suitable donor.
Now that he’s found a match he said that he wanted to tell the potential donor “Thank you for saving my life, for letting me spend more time with my wife and my daughter and son-in-law, my grandchildren.”
A clearly emotional York added “For seeing this beautiful blue sky and all the beautiful trees around me. That’s what I would say.”
