Cody Puts the Pieces Together Regarding Gladys and Dr. Montague — and Anna Makes [Spoiler] a Promise
Friday, September 8, 2023: Today on General Hospital, Ava gives Nina advice about Sonny, Dex explains his feelings to Joss, and "Eddie" records a demo.
At the Metro Court, Nina enters and is on the phone with Gladys. Nina rants that if Sasha isn’t home first thing tomorrow then she’s going to Ferncliff to find out why. She looks across the restaurant and sees Anna on the phone.
Anna is on the phone trying to find out who owns the vacant house Valentin went to but gets nowhere. Nina approaches her and asks if she has any information on Sonny’s hearing, which is today. Anna doesn’t unfortunately.
Ava arrives and hears Nina talking to Anna about how Sonny’s been set up, possibly by the person who tried to shoot at them at the pool. Anna says they don’t know who the target was, but Ava notes the bullet hit poor Curtis, who is now in a wheelchair. Nina tells Ava that Sonny feels guilty about that, and she imagines Anna does too. Anna knows Curtis is home, but not receiving visitors. Ava fills her in on what Trina has told her about Curtis. Anna decides to head out.
Ava feels bad about what she said, but Nina believes Anna knows she didn’t mean any harm. Ava assumes Nina is worried given Sonny’s hearing is today, and reminds Nina that Sonny’s beaten more charges than she can count. However, she needs Nina to face the reality, even if Sonny gets out of this, he won’t change and there will always be something else. Nina says she’s been with complicated men before, such as Valentin. Ava just wants her to think about what she’s going to do before she does it, and not after. Nina says she knows she’s going to marry Sonny.
They sit down, and Ava again just wants her to be sure about marrying Sonny and reminds her at her last wedding she turned around and ran out. Nina insists unlike Valentin, Sonny doesn’t lie to her. Ava responds, “Sure, and you don’t lie to Sonny.” Nina asks why she’s doing this. Ava just wants her to go into this with her eyes wide open. Ava suggests after they marry, they could buy Spoon Island and Wyndemere. She explains she’s selling it, as it’s lonely there just her and Avery, and there are the memories of Nikolas. Nina gets a reminder and must get to the hearing. Ava hopes she didn’t upset her, and Nina assures her she didn’t.
“Eddie,” along with Olivia and Leo arrive at a recording studio, which Sonny booked for him. “Eddie” knows this producer is one of the best, and he really wants to thank Sonny. He assumes Sonny is here, but Olivia explains he has other obligations today.
They head into the recording booth, and Leo is fascinated by the control console. The producer meets “Eddie,” and asks Olivia if she’ll be singing backup. She laughs that they haven’t sang together since the Nurses’ Ball years ago. She explains she and “Eddie” are just friends.
The producer asks “Eddie” the details of how he wants to record. “Eddie” explains he’s old school, he has the music in his head and likes to sing and play in the same take. He recalls some of his old gigs, and how he used to have tons of fans and groupies. He remembers a particular gig where it felt like he was only singing for one special person, and it was the best performance of his life.
The producer and his assistant get everything set up and “Eddie” gets to work performing his song about the siren he can hear, but can’t see. He pauses a few times during the takes, even going into a daze at once, but nails it on a final take. Leo and Olivia smile at one another as they listen.
Joss finds Dex on the docks lost in thought. She asks if he’s okay. He knows he screwed up, and Sonny could spend life in prison because of him. Joss says this isn’t his fault, and if Sonny goes to prison, then it’s because of what Sonny did. Dex beats himself up for throwing away the flash drive into a public trash can, but Joss says he doesn’t know if anyone retrieved it. Dex doesn’t know how he could be so careless with Sonny’s freedom. Joss says it’s because of her he did what he did, but he won’t let her blame herself. Dex is taken aback when Joss admits she wanted to use the drive to help her mom and help him. He reminds her he takes precautions and doesn’t need her protection, but she points out that if not for her mom calling him then he’d be in jail right now. She wants him to stop beating himself up for something Sonny did.
Dex knows he only works for Sonny because of the job he took with Michael, but as he’s gotten to know Sonny, his feelings have become more complicated. He says if Sonny goes to prison, then it will leave a hole in his life. He explains Sonny has taught him so much about what it means to be a man. She assumes he’s going to the hearing, and he says he is. She thanks him for explaining what Sonny means to him, and he tells her never to forget what she means to him too. They kiss.
At Portia and Curtis’ place, Portia tells Curtis she has to step out and will pick up wings on the way home. Later, Marshall informs his son he has to head to The Savoy as it seems he messed up some numbers. He calls out to Portia to say he’s running out, but Curtis says she went to GH. Marshall assumes his errand can wait, prompting Curtis to call his dad out. He has noticed that everyone is concerned about leaving him home alone, and that’s not helping him. Marshall realizes he’s right, and tells Curtis he’ll see him later and heads out to The Savoy.
Later, Anna stops by to see Curtis. He invites her in and she asks where Portia and Trina are. He explains they aren’t here, and realizes Anna thought he’d have a babysitter. He gets a laugh at her shock when he says that, and says he’s sorry but it was too easy not to say. He explains this has been the first time he’s been alone in his house, and actually anywhere since the shooting. Anna says that’s why she came, and he likely knows the bullet wasn’t meant for him. Anna is really sorry this happened, and tears roll down her cheeks.
Curtis tells Anna this isn’t her fault, but she says the bullet may have been meant for her. He admits at first, he hated her and Sonny, but it didn’t last. He remembered how he used to live his life, and what happened to him could have happened to someone else because of his own actions. He says this may be karma, or it just is what it is. Anna says that’s incredibly gracious of him. She promises they’ll find out who did this.
Portia enters and is surprised to find Anna there. Portia asks where Marshall is, and Curtis explains Marshall left, which shocks her. Anna decides to leave, and Portia walks her out.
Out front, Portia asks Anna what makes her think it is a good idea for her to come here. Anna says she knows Curtis wasn’t seeing anyone, but she didn’t upset him. Portia scoffs that she upset her, and thanks to her and Sonny, Curtis almost died and now lives his life in a wheelchair. She lashes out that she and Sonny live dangerous lives but mingle with others and put those people in danger. Anna swears they’ll find out who did this. Portia says that won’t do Curtis any good, and she asks Anna not to come back. Anna chokes back tears, says she won’t come by again, and rushes off.
Portia heads back inside, and Curtis tells her that he doesn’t blame Anna for this. Portia says she does.
At Ferncliff, Montague finds Cody in Sasha’s cell and asks what is going on. Cody recognizes Montague and immediately puts it together. He realizes Montague knows Gladys from Ms. Wu’s poker games, and that’s where this all started. Dr. Montague explains patients aren’t allowed in one another’s rooms, and Cody appears agitated. Cody doesn’t believe Dr. Montague cares about Sasha and says he can see what is going on.
Cody asks the doctor if Gladys asked him to keep Sasha drugged so she appeared unstable and Gladys could stay in control of Sasha’s money. Montague says it’s not uncommon for patients here to have delusional conspiracy theories, and says he’ll speak to Cody’s doctor and feels he needs more medication. Sasha pipes up and asks if Cody is right and if her doctor knows Gladys. Montague claims of course he does and reminds her that he met Gladys at her initial consultation. Montague says he’s going to get a guard to remove Cody, but Cody says he’s not going anywhere and punches Montague, who flies across the room. Montague gets to his feet and lunges back at Cody.
Later, Cody, dressed in Montague’s clothes and keeping his head down, escorts Sasha out. A nurse asks the doctor where he’s taking the patient. Cody explains his patient needs air, and they walk out the doors of the unit. In Sasha’s cell, Montague is bound and gagged in his undies.
Janice gets a glimpse of Cody and Sasha as they leave, and asks the nurse who just left with the patient. The other nurse says it was Dr. Montague and he said the patient needed air. Janice says Dr. Montague would never do that. Janice calls security to put in a lockdown as Cody Bell is escaping with Sasha Gilmore.
Outside of Ferncliff, Cody gets Sasha into a car, which Sam apparently provided as he says “Thank you, Sam, you’re the best.” After they are buckled in, Cody speeds away.
On the next General Hospital: Sonny’s hearing is held and his friends and family show up in support. Maxie updates Felicia about Deception. TJ and Molly have news to share. Spencer makes a romantic gesture.
