Sister Wives season 18 is already off to a dramatic start with Kody Brown proclaiming his hatred for his ex-wife Christine Brown in the season premiere. After years of their marriage crumbling on screen, Christine finally decided enough was enough during Sister Wives season 17 and left Kody. Packing up their 12-year-old daughter, Truely, and moving to Utah, Christine has made it a point that her life with Kody is in the past. She’s shown on social media that leaving her marriage has made her abundantly happier, but it hasn’t done the same for Kody, who’s still struggling with their split.

In the Sister Wives season 18 premiere (via Us Weekly), Kody shared that he’s still got some incredibly difficult feelings about Christine. While Christine was hopeful that after over 25 years of marriage, she and Kody could make the choice to have an amicable split, Kody had some different ideas. “I feel so betrayed after all that I have done for this marriage and to have her sort of s*** talk me to the kids, I kind of feel like in my heart, I just never wanna see her again,” Kody explained, before making the declaration, “I wanna spend some time hating her.”

Kody Brown Wants To Spend More Time “Hating” Christine

Kody’s struggle with Christine’s departure isn’t easy to watch. “The state of the family is strained…it almost feels like a civil war,” Kody explained early in the episode. “Christine moved me out of her house a year ago and said we were divorced.” By Kody’s tone alone, it’s clear he isn’t accepting the divorce. On the other hand, Christine is thrilled with her decision to leave Kody and Arizona behind her. After Kody discussed his recent bout with COVID-19, lamenting about just how sick he was, Christine felt a rush or relief. “I’m not married to him anymore,”

Kody and Christine’s meetup in the Sister Wives season 18 premiere was tense, with the exes hoping to discuss the holiday season and how things would be handled for their children. With Kody still having a fair bit of anger towards Christine and her decision to leave him behind, the couple hasn’t been able to have an amicable discussion before their meetup. While Christine is clearly ready to chat and feels confident putting her first marriage behind her, Kody is lost in the relationship without being married to Christine. He’s unsure how to react to her or where to place his feelings, making the interaction difficult and biting.

With Sister Wives season 18 starting off strong and leaning into the dynamics between Kody and his wives, both current and estranged, the season is sure to be a dramatic outing. While the series has always been an advocate for family and strength, it’s clear that in watching Kody’s marriages collapse, things will change for the Brown family. After years of feeling left out and displaced, Christine has found a life that makes her profoundly happy. Even though it’s not with Kody, the Sister Wives patriarch should accept and celebrate her happiness.

Sister Wives season 18 airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EDT on TLC.
